5 Ways To Make Sure You Have Blog Readers

Make Sure You Have A Happy Audience For Your Blog

So you’ve decided to start a blog. Whether it’s to spread a personal message, get readers to click on affiliate links, or make money from advertisers, blogging can be a rewarded digital sport.

If you’re like many bloggers, you’ve come to the realization that someone is reading your posts. You want to make sure you have more readers and the ones you have already stay happy too.

Here’s five ways you can stay on track for more happy and satisfied readers in your blog audience.

1. Make sure you're writing about something people find helpful. There are already a million blog posts out there on “different things to do in xyx place,” so—for example—if you’re writing a travel blog, you have to get more “niche” with it and provide some value. For example, “best places to find spicy food in Dallas” is a much more specific post that carries some value for the readers who are putting that inquiry into Google.

Blog about trending topics too. "Why is everyone at the beach this month and what to pack for fun" is a good one. Be specific. Also, find social media trends that fit into your niche, that may make entertaining subject matter. For instance, "Here's an explanation of the TikTok 369 Tesla manifestation method so you can do it too". That topic may be briefly trending, but you may be able to get some forever loyal readers with a post like that.

Do any of your instagram followers like something in particular? Dog lovers?, link to your posts about summer flea control...

2. Make sure you're opening doors and reaching across your platform. A big part of funneling readers to your blog is about building a network of back-links, which are essentially hyperlinks to your site from guest posting you do on other people’s blogs or websites.

A good way to do this is to network and do guest posts for people on their blogs, (with the stipulation) so that you can put some links to your site in the post you made for their site. Be up front about it (and nice about it). Just ask. Exchange blog posts and make sure the link to your site is in the guest post. Then you can have a guest blogger post on your site, the author will link back to their site.

Now that's really nice! Find a blogger with about the same number of readers and it should be easier to get them on the idea. It's Double the audience! Easy peasy!

3. Build relationships, understand your audience. You need to have a contact button on your website, and harvest some emails. Alternatively, by blogging consistently and alerting social media connections of your new posts, you can draw some steady streams of traffic to your site. The overall idea is to get recurring readers. Send a short email alerting them of your new post. Or, send a sms text. Not only will that increase your readership, if they like your content they’ll share it with others.

4. Happy readers are returning readers too. Make sure your site looks good. You don't have to get carried away with bells and whistles but make sure your site is easy to navigate. Make sure you don't have broken links anywhere (including internal ones).

Keep your contact form up to date and read any comments you get. If people hop on to your blog and find that it looks messy or takes to long to load, then they will bounce right off. Your website needs to look professional, and the architecture needs to be clean and well designed (for mobile users as well). Compress photos, use a neat format, and use tags and keywords.

5. You should try to write as well as you can. However, you are not a machine and it's okay if your personality shows through. After all, that's why your readers are with you.

Don’t worry about trying to be as perfect as a literature professor with every sentence you write, especially if you are just starting out.

Just try to make sure you write as well as you can and "dot your i's and cross the t's". I can practically guarantee, if you try, your writing skills will get better with each post you make!!

You will think of more things to write about. You will be able to write long posts and short ones. Your better writing skills will easily carry over to your other posting at other platforms.

Use shorter sentences, small paragraphs, and lots of pictures to punctuate your words. That way,  people will not find your blog too exhausting to read. While SEO experts tout the benefits of long-form posts (over 2,000 words) you still have to balance that out with reader experience—and most readers can’t tolerate more than half that word count.

Okay, now that should be a good strong start for a blog check-up. Once you have mastered these five ways to make sure you have readers for your blog posts, you should have happy results when you blog.

See you next time!
