Reading and practicing these in your daily routine will improve your skill. 

Begin to find objects and scenery that interest you and that you would like to draw. Then;

Check your lighting.

If you are drawing and you are a right handed person, ensure that the light is from your left side. This will prevent your hand shadow falling on your paper.

Dots, lines, and cubes are basic images.

First step when you practice drawing – you should practice drawing line, straight line, curved line, scribbled lines, and your hand should obey the command of your thoughts and visions. You should control your hand and you should be able to bring out what you want.

Practice the basics often.

You should further develop drawing circles, oval shapes, crossed lines and bold and thick lines. Just like how a baby develops from crawling stage to walking stage, your art should also develop step by step. You may begin to see "your style" start to develop.

Choose to draw images that you enjoy.

These lines and curves are like "pillars to a building" or "tree trunks of a tree".  The foundation should be strong enough to have a good building. Similarly, these initial small lines and curves will go a long way in your art. 

You should also start controlling the stress on your pencil. You should be able to bring the correct darkness and thickness in the lines of what you draw. Patience is required, you will get better with time. 

You will be much better than you think. 

We all start out critical of our efforts but you will see a difference with practice. Soon your family and friends will be amazed.  Initially you may not be able to draw a circle or an oval shape correctly, but don’t get discouraged. You should practice and practice until you get perfection. You should also keep all your drawings. Save them carefully from the start to know how you are improving.  You may also notice that some images will be easier than others. You could also date your sketches and preserve them for the future. Sometimes the simplest beginnings reflect the most personal style.

As a hobby or a profession, just start simple.

You may like to try drawing as a hobby.  Drawing is a very good way to relax and concentrate. Practice forming images that relay your emotion or your thoughts.  It may be easier to start with small and simple then graduate to scenery.  You should concentrate in the area where you feel you would like to develop. It is much easier to draw images you like or know well. 

If you are not able to shade properly then learn more to do that. You can try out your own style of shading. Build your own individuality, you don't have to copy from another artist. Your art is uniquely your own and you will see that others will appreciate it for that as well. Not everyone will make drawings exact, but the style is very nice to appreciate. 

Last but not the least, use your supplies.

Pencils and paper are for the artist to use. Your first drawings are your beginning. Make small pictures and work your way up to bigger ones.  Use the back side of your paper. If you are on a budget, use cheaper paper until you have a vision for your project. Progress towards better quality materials as you become more confident.  Keep projects of various stages of completion in a notebook. Look to these drawings for further inspiration and complete or improve them as you desire. Your drawing skills will develop but do not feel pressured to be the very best immediately. 

Your own personal style will take time to develop. Your notebook is your scale. With good quality effort on your part, you will likely see if pencil drawing is the right hobby for you.
